Tennessee's Centers for Independent Living
What are centers for independent living?
Each Center for Independent Living (CIL) is a single, private, not
for profit organization that operates independently from
other CILs throughout the state. Each CIL has their own
board of directors and organizational goals to provide services
that will maximize the independence of individuals with disabilities
and the accessibility of the communities they live in. Centers operate
as separate entities from the Statewide Independent Living Council
and are funded in part by the Department of Education, Rehabilitation
Services Administration, Independent Living Branch, to provide,
among other things, several core services:
Advocacy
Independent living skills training
Information and referral
Peer counseling
