Welcome!

The Statewide Independent Living Council of Tennessee (SILC of TN) and the Centers for Independent Living (CIL) are federally mandated. There are currently six centers located across the state. Our organizations work on behalf of persons of all ages and all disabilities.

• Employment – Livable wages and non-discrimination practices

• Human rights – Equality and equal access

• Urban planning and transportation – Accessible and affordable

• Health – Mental, HIV/AIDs, and general affordable health care

• Housing – Fair, safe, accessible, and affordable

No less than fifty-one percent (51%) of each organization’s makeup are people with disabilities, themselves.

Participation with a variety of organizations that promote the independent living philosophy currently include: National Council on Independent Living (NCIL); Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living (APRIL); Tennessee State Rehab Council; Tennessee State Family Support Council; Tennessee Disability Coalition; Tennessee Technology Access Program Council; Visitability Task Force; and the Alliance for Public Policy.
